AAHKS Statement on CMS Outpatient Rule

AAHKS released a statement regarding the 2018 Medicare Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System (OPPS) Final Rule released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on November 1. CMS finalized their earlier proposal to remove total knee arthroplasty (TKA) from the inpatient only list (IPO). This means that Medicare will now reimburse TKA procedures performed on an inpatient or outpatient basis, and CPT code 27447 will be assigned to C-APC 5115 with status indicator J1.
