Hip Cartilage Grown from Stem Cells

Scientists at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and Cytex Therapeutics in Durham, N.C. have published a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences that describe a technique they’ve developed to grow cartilage from stem cells in the shape of a hip joint. According to the Washington University news release, “The discovery one day may provide an alternative to hip-replacement surgery, particularly in younger patients.” Full story.
