At the end of June, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced “flexibilities for clinicians participating in the Quality Payment Program (QPP) Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) in 2020,” for providers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those significantly impacted can submit an Extreme & Uncontrollable Circumstances Application, which will reweigh MIPS performance categories including opting-out for the performance year. Applications must be completed by December 31, 2020. More information can be found on CMS QPP COVID-19 page.
