FOCAL: Fellows Orthopaedic Continued AAHKS Learning
Specifically tailored to Adult Reconstruction Fellows and Senior Residents FOCAL RecordingsJOA Reviewer ProgramFOCAL arose as a response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Because elective surgeries were postponed at many institutions, AAHKS leadership recognized that the effect of the pandemic might significantly impair the fellowship learning experience in 2020. To help augment the fellows’ learning experience, AAHKS created the FOCAL Initiative – a free, online, interactive learning experience for surgeons in training that have chosen adult reconstruction as a specialty. Through FOCAL, arthroplasty fellows and senior residents are invited to listen to lectures from many of the country’s top adult reconstruction surgeons and participate in case discussions. View recordings.
AAHKS created the FOCAL Committee following the success of the initiative. Led by William G. Hamilton, MD, the FOCAL Committee is dedicated to enhancing adult reconstruction fellow education and will work to supplement the overall knowledge of arthroplasty trainees.
To attract young research reviewers, the FOCAL Committee created the JOA Reviewer Mentorship Program in 2020. The program trains residents, fellows and physicians early in practice on how to effectively review a journal article. Participants are matched with a current JOA Elite Reviewer who help them complete their first reviews and answer questions. Apply today.
Please note: FOCAL Session participation is free, open to all arthroplasty surgeons, and will not award CME.
FOCAL Session Schedule: 2023
