Keynote Speaker Martin Makary, MD

2021 AAHKS Annual Meeting attendees witnessed an engaging keynote session conversation between AAHKS President Richard Iorio, MD and Martin Makary, MD. Dr. Makary is a health care futurist, Johns Hopkins surgeon, and Professor of Public Health. The wide-ranging conversation covered a critical review of the public health response to the COVID-19 pandemic, lifestyle medicine, the movement of relationship-based clinics and other concepts addressed in his best-selling book, The Price We Pay. The conversation touched on the unique position of hip and knee surgeons in leading improvements in the physician’s role in the health care system as a result of the wide-spread involvement in bundled payments and value-based care pilot programs.
