AAHKS President R. Michael Meneghini, MD Takes Office

March 12, 2025 (San Diego, California) – The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) is pleased to announce R. Michael Meneghini as the 2025-2026 President. Dr. Meneghini took office during the AAHKS Board of Directors meeting in San Diego, California.

Dr. Meneghini is currently the CEO and founder of the Indiana Orthopedic Institute (IOI). Prior to founding IOI, Dr. Meneghini served as founder and director of the Indiana University Health Hip and Knee Center. He is also the Chief Market Development Officer for the Healthcare Outcomes Performance Company (HOPCo). Dr. Meneghini brings a wealth of experience – over 20 years of clinical expertise to this role, beginning with his completion of undergraduate studies at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, graduating Magna Cum Lade. For medical school, Dr. Meneghini attended the Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine and completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Rush University in Chicago, followed by a lower extremity adult reconstruction fellowship at Mayo Clinic.

Acknowledgments of Dr. Meneghini’s many accomplishments are vast. He has received the Mark B. Coventry Lower Extremity Adult Reconstruction Award, the inaugural IU School of Medicine Early Career Achievement Award and the Career Achievement Award from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Dr. Meneghini also has numerous US patents and innovative designs in clinical use, including cementless total knee replacement, knee arthroplasty revision metaphyseal cones, primary and revision hip arthroplasty systems and outpatient same day discharge risk stratification algorithm.

I’m extremely honored to serve the AAHKS members and their patients to promote and grow our mission of establishing AAHKS as the definitive global authority on excellence in hip and knee care. Our members will face continued downward pressures from inflation, labor costs, decreased reimbursement and government regulation creating headwinds against practice viability and sustainability.  We must collaborate and innovate together to preserve orthopaedic practices and maintain patient access to hip and knee care.  I look forward to leading this dynamic organization during these challenging times and will lean on the executive leadership, the Board of Directors and the members to cultivate success in delivering on our mission,” said Dr. Meneghini.

Dr. Meneghini has been a longstanding member of AAHKS since 2005 and in this time, he has served on the Finance, Industry Relations and Fellowship Match Oversight Committees. In 2020, during a very challenging climate due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Meneghini served as the AAHKS Annual Meeting Program Chair, spearheading efforts for that year’s meeting and leading us to great victory despite the various challenges associations were facing globally due to the pandemic.
