Last week, the Women Orthopaedic Global Outreach (WOGO) Chapter of Operation Walk traveled to Arusha, Tanzania, to provide medical care at the Arusha Lutheran Medical Center. During the visit, the team screened 80 patients and performed 47 knee replacement surgeries. Thanks to WOGO’s partnership with Soles4Souls, all patients received new shoes. In addition, WOGO was able to donate shoes to over 950 students at Arusha School and Kafika House. WOGO’s mission is to empower, educate, and engage women and their communities in developing countries by addressing the chronic burden of arthritis and disability through total joint reconstruction. The lead surgeons for this trip were AAHKS members Linda I. Suleiman, MD, Women In Arthroplasty Chair, and Rinelda M. Horton, MD, Diversity Advisory Board Member.
